A couple have re-lived their courtship by holding court at Caerphilly Castle ahead of their 25th wedding anniversary.
Jim Young proposed to his wife Sharon under the castle’s leaning tower in 1989, while on a visit to their beloved South Wales.
Some girls may have hoped for Pisa, but the romance of Caerphilly was enough for Sharon to say yes and the Lancashire couple married in 1990.
The grandparents still often visit Wales as part of their love of castles and used a competition they won to re-live the moment they became engaged.
As part of the competition, run by Caerphilly County Borough Council, they won a two night stay at Bryn Meadows golf course, hotel and spa.
Mr Young said: “To be able to go back to the castle nearly 25 years after my marriage proposal to Sharon was amazing.
“Our stay in Caerphilly County Borough has been fantastic. We’ve travelled around the area and had the opportunity to see Llancaiach Fawr Manor where we got involved in the Halloween witch trial event in the Manor House, it was great fun.
Caerphilly is a special place for us, it is such as beautiful part of Wales, friendly people, superb scenery and it’s the birthplace of my all-time favourite comedian Tommy Cooper.”
