Ystrad Mynach man fined £1,000 and banned from keeping animals after dog cruelty

News | | Published: 11:00, Tuesday November 25th, 2014.

An Ystrad Mynach man has been banned from keeping animals for ten years by magistrates.

Daniel Pantry, 19, of Penallta Road, Ystrad Mynach, appeared before Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on November 17.

He admitted two charges under the Animal Welfare Act, for not looking after a dog called Thor, and was ordered to pay £350 in fines, an £18 victim surcharge and prosecution costs of £650 – a total of £1,018.

Pantry was handed a ten-year order by magistrates banning him from keeping any animals for ten years.

RSPCA Inspector Christine McNeill said: “It was a shocking circumstance in which the dog was found. The dog was lucky to have been found when he was.

“He has now recovered and a few months ago was rehomed.”

The RSPCA said it received concerns about the dog through its 24-hour cruelty helpline.

Keep a dog in squalor, mistreat that animal, starve it, keep it in poverty and the authorities will fine and ban somebody from keeping an animal, and rightly so. Keep a child in the same conditions and the authorities do nothing, and if they do remove a child there is nothing to stop somebody from having another child.

A very fair point is made there. Would you call for forced sterilisation of the people who have been convicted of child cruelty, or being barred from adopting?

Forced sterilisation sounds like a great at first; especially with most people. However, with social services being incompetent and taking away children after falling down the stairs you’ll inevitably have innocent people sterilised.

Something needs to be done to stop people farming children for their own gain as these children are often treated worse than animals. It never ceases to amaze me how the British will show more compassion for a mistreated animal than a starving child. Social Services are incompetent because too many Social Workers are middle class graduates on large salaries who have no real life experience whatsoever.

If you want to stop people farming children for their own gain you will need to prohibit paid fostering.
