Caerphilly resident fined £400 for fly-tipping

News | | Published: 10:05, Friday December 5th, 2014.

A Caerphilly resident had to pay fines totalling more than £400 after being prosecuted for fly tipping.

Tanya Kidley, of Lon Yr Odyn, Caerphilly was taken to court by Caerphilly County Borough Council after household waste was dumped at Pentwyn Isaf, from a vehicle registered to her.

Kidley pleaded guilty at Newport Magistrates Court on November 21. She was ordered to pay a fine of £180, together with costs of £232.12 and a £20 victim surcharge.

Cllr David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “This successful prosecution is another indication of our commitment to taking action against those who commit environmental crime such as this.

“I hope this conviction, the fine and the subsequent adverse publicity will discourage other potential fly-tippers from this unacceptable behaviour – which is detrimental to our entire community.”

A Caerphilly County Borough Council spokesperson said: “Offenders of fly-tipping can face fines of up to £50,000 and/or imprisonment.

“To report fly-tipping or any other environmental concern in Caerphilly county borough, please call Caerphilly StreetPride on 01443 866 566 or visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk/streetpride.”
