Workers at Llancaiach Fawr Manor have been given an award for the quality of their heritage education.

The team received the Sandford Award for Excellence in Heritage Education during a ceremony at Greenwhich Maritime Museum.

Announcing the award, a judge said: “Llancaiach Fawr is a house with a fascinating history, which has the good fortune to be run by a dedicated and visionary team of staff and volunteers.

“It already offers a rich programme of educational activities to both formal and informal learners, and is making the most of all the opportunities offered by the extensive building works currently taking place.

“The already very good service it offers will undoubtedly be still further enhanced when they are complete, and it will continue to go from strength to strength.”

The Sandford Award is managed by Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln, in partnership with the Heritage Education Trust.

It recognises and promotes quality and excellence education provision at sites across the British Isles.

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development said: “This year alone, the team have welcomed over 10,000 school children to learn more about the history and heritage of Llancaiach Fawr, and this award which recognises excellence in heritage education is richly deserved by the dedicated team – congratulations to you all.”
