Police are reminding residents to check their home security after a shed was broken into in Thomas Street, Abertridwr and two attempted garage breaks in St Cenydd Road and West Avenue, Trecenydd, last week.
Gwent Police are offering residents the following tips to keep their outdoor property safe:
- Check that the fabric of your shed is in a good condition – light timber sheds can be entered simply by removing boards from its sides.
- Use good quality locks on gates and doors.
- Fit an alarm. Shed alarms are relatively inexpensive, easy to install and can be battery or mains powered.
- Install sensor operated outdoor security lighting.
- Don’t leave ladders outside and chain them up – they can be stolen or used to break into your home.
- Check your household insurance covers theft from garden and outbuildings.
