Blackwood residents told to be vigilant after series of thefts

News | | Published: 15:51, Friday February 20th, 2015.

Blackwood residents have been warned to be extra vigilant after a series of thefts in the area.

Batteries were stolen from cars on Penmaen Road, fuel was stolen from a lorry on Newbridge Road and van stolen from Edgehill was found burnt out.

Thieves stole cable from St Ivors Road and Penllwyn Avenue and took nine foot of wire from outside Pontllanfraith post office.

There has also been shed and garage break-ins, wheelie bins and washing stolen and an attempted theft from a car wash on Commercial Street.

Gwent Police Inspector Mark Thomas said: “We are currently investigating each reported crime and asking residents to secure their property.

“Extra patrols have now been put in place by uniformed and plain clothed officers, we also have a tasking team of officers being deployed over the weekend.

“I’d like to reiterate the dangers of stealing earthing cable or cable in general – these thieves are putting themselves and others in great danger.

“Please report any suspicious activity immediately by calling Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
