Caerphilly Council get £93,000 for children’s play

News | | Published: 17:00, Friday March 13th, 2015.

Caerphilly County Borough Council will get nearly £93,000 to develop play areas for children.

The money is a part of an extra £287,000 for South East Wales authorities announced by Lesley Griffiths, the Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty.

Caerphilly will get £92,755 to improve access for disabled children, provide signs to encourage street play, buy new equipment such as rope swings, climbing frames.

Transportable equipment will also be bought to ensure children from disadvantaged areas have more opportunities to play.

Ms Griffiths said: “Play is a vital part of a child’s upbringing and development which benefits their health, happiness and wellbeing.

“This is why, despite the squeeze on our budgets, we are determined to ensure children in Wales have somewhere safe, secure and fun to play with their friends.

“We are doing all we can to improve people’s standard of living and help our children to live healthy lives.

“I am very proud the Welsh Government took the lead on this issue, making Wales the first nation in the UK to legislate on play.”

LOCAL COUNCILLORS AND SUPPORT FROM THE COMMUNITY want the Lansbury Park Community Centre defurbished and opened for community use.

What an ideal opportuntiy to spend some of these funds, it would provide a lasting facility for the most poverty stricken ward in the UK, whilst providing specific facilities for mother and toddler groups, play schemes for youngsters, and youth facilities for older youths,.

What better case could be stated for a slice of these funds. and spending it in the poorest place in the UK, in Wales, and in the borough, I bet someone in the Council will turn any application into a rocket science exercise though, and not much will be done at all in this ward.

Trefor, I agree wholeheartedly. If I can be of any assistance in helping secure funding for Lansbury let me know.

I am sure Councillor Elaine Forehead would be only to grateful for any help and assistance and support you are able to give in her efforts to get a feasable scheme together to reopen the Community Centre. What she needs first of course is the will and support of County Councillors when she raises the issues at Council, only after she gets that will the hard work in the Community start.

Can’t CCBC put the £93,00 into improving the main roads leading in and out of Caerphilly? This will benefit more people than some community centre or a children’s play park.
