Two Caerphilly County Borough police officers sacked for gross misconduct

News | | Published: 08:47, Saturday March 14th, 2015.

Two police officers based in Caerphilly County Borough have been sacked for gross misconduct, after they allegedly helped a motorist avoid prosecution.

The pair, alongside a third officer from Newport, were arrested last month on suspicion of perverting the course of justice but were released without charge.

Following a Professional Standards hearing presided over by two senior police officers and an independent member, the three were dismissed without notice for gross misconduct.

A fourth officer was given a final written warning.

The Standards investigation began in February 2014 and centred on allegations that the officers had sought to assist a family member, who had been involved in a car crash, avoid prosecution.

Gwent Police Deputy Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: “The public of Gwent rightly expects police officers to act with the highest integrity and professionalism at all times.

“Our officers and staff work hard on behalf of the public, and it’s disappointing when the actions of a tiny minority risks detracting from the excellent work done by the vast majority of our colleagues.”

Why aren’t their names being disclosed, the public pay their wages so have a right to know who the three are.

Why would anyone in the public want to know the names of these three erant policement? What good would it do to indentify them Paul?
Senior police officers have dealt with this matter, I presume the person they tried to help avoid prosecution was eventually prosecuted.

As for the arguement that we pay their wages Paul, we dont anymore.

They have been disciplined, they have lost their jobs, and they have lost a previously perfect personal reputation for honesty and good integrity, they probably have mortages, families, children etc, so why would you want to know who they are????? What possible use would that be to you or me or other members of the public? unless you intend they should be stoned in the street of course.

Because if you, me or any other member of the public breaks the law and is prosecuted then our name and picture would be printed in the local press, it is in the publics interest to know who exactly these ex police officers are. A serving police office should be somebody that the public can put their trust in to be honest and law abiding themselves, not someone who uses their position to help a family member aviod prosecution. They should have thought about their precious reputations and their families before they abused their postion. So you want everybody who breaks the law to remain anonymous do you.

          Paul, calm down dear,

These officers have neither been prosecuted, nor are they, any longer, `Serving Police Officers`, so your argument to have their identities plastered all over the newspapers does not hold water.

If however the CPS or the Gwent Police decided they had broken the criminal law I am sure their names would have to be exposed, but, as we understand it from these reports They have not been so accused.

I didn’t say that they had been prosecuted, nor did I say that they are serving police officers. I did say that it is in the publics interest to know who these three ex police officers are. They are there to uphold the law and serve the public, not to abuse their position, but thats just my opinion, some might agree with me, many may not.

            What you stated was:
“Because if you, me or any other member of the public BREAKS THE LAW AND IS `PROSECUTED” (these officers did`nt and have not) ” then our name and picture would be printed in the local
press, it is in the publics interest to know who exactly these ex police
officers are. “A SERVING POLICE OFFICER” ( which these are not) should be somebody that the
public can put their trust in to be honest and law abiding themselves”.

Paul, It appears they are law abiding, but, may not wholly honest, and they certainly have not been prosecuted, and for not being “honest” they have had the sack.

They should have considered their precious reputations and their families before they abused their postion. So you want everybody who breaks the law to remain anonymous do you, and as far as I was aware the police are paid by central government with money it raises through a thing called taxation such as income tax and council tax which is paid by the public, so the public pay the wages of the police, who are there to serve the public and uphold the law.

Name and shame them I say! This is just another example of the “ESTABLISHMENT” closing ranks to protect their own.

If they still held public office they should be identified, as for instance, the officer who was reinstated after having sexual intercourse with a member of the public whilst on fire-arms duty, gun around the ankles and all that rubbish was so idenitified. but, in this case these men, or women, no longer hold public office, they have been heavily punished for their dishonesty. They have not been required to make any puiblic restitution so there is no reason at all why the public needs to know who they are.

If they still held public office they should be identified, as for
instance, the officer and his colleague, who was reinstated after having sexual intercourse with a member of the public whilst on fire-arms duty, gun around the
ankles and all that rubbish, who were so idenitified. but, in this case these

Besides the fact that this is down to the judgment of senior Police officers who have command and control of the Gwent Police in such matters.
