FAIR FLAVOURS: Trinant Primary School pupils made cakes with Fairtrade chocolate

Pupils at Trinant Primary School held a fair trade day in celebration of Fairtrade Fortnight.

The nursery class made rice crispy cakes and Year One made Gruffalo cakes with Fairtrade chocolate.

Years Two and Three made banana smoothies using Fairtrade fruit and the juniors also used Fairtrade produce to make fruit kebabs.

The school have achieved a Fair Aware Award after creating display boards mapping where individual Fairtrade products originate and visiting a fair trade shop.

The day was part of their progress towards their Fair Active Award after they held a Fairtrade stall at their Christmas Fayre, selling all sorts of fair trade produce.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Caerphilly County Borough Council Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “It is wonderful to see every child participating in Fairtrade Day, as they are learning the importance of Fairtrade products in a fun and active way.”
