A special service has been held at the Holy Trinity Church in Ystrad Mynach to celebrate the completion of work to improve disabled access.

The service of thanksgiving marked the end of a six-year project to improve the church and the facilities it offers to the community, allowing everyone to take part in worship and other activities.

A stone ramp was built to allow easy access for wheelchair users and a disabled toilet was installed.

There was decorating work inside the church to spruce up the walls and floor, installation of new lighting and heating, plus restoration work on the organ.

A room in the crypt was also renovated to transform it into a light, modern meeting room, named the All Saints Room as it features lit stained glass windows from All Saints Church, Llanbradach which closed around 20 years ago.

Parish priest, Canon Steven Kirk, said: “Everybody supported this restoration project with great enthusiasm and commitment.

“We are delighted with the result as it means that the church is now fully accessible for everyone who wishes to take part in all that we do.

“The All Saints’ Room provides a useful resource for meetings and prayer and study groups and it contains a small library of spiritual reading. We are also pleased to have a permanent memorial to All Saints Church through the use of its stained glass windows which have been imaginatively incorporated into light boxes.”
