A local business has become the first in Bargoed to receive financial support from Caerphilly County Borough Council’s new EU-backed ‘Building Improvement Grant’ scheme.
Carl Walbyoff, of Fairview Trade Sales, successfully applied for funding to refurbish his car sales premises on Under Cardiff Road, Bargoed to help improve the appearance of the showroom.
The Building Improvement Grant scheme, which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through Welsh Government, offers financial support of up to 75%, and has attracted significant interest from businesses in Bargoed and Newbridge.
Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development, said: “This successful Building Improvement Grant scheme has helped refurbish a key retail premises at the gateway to Bargoed town centre. Both the Bargoed and Newbridge regeneration projects are successfully improving the streetscene and now commercial property owners have the opportunity to enhance their own buildings.

Newbridge got a road blocked off for a month, we got banging and clanking on the railway line at 11 pm at night it is a nightmare at the moment.
All the businesses will go down the pan before they get a grant on their shops.
Newbridge doesn’t want cobbled stones under the railway bridge that are lethal in the rain and snow just tarmac.
Road blocked off from yesterday and two car bumps by newbridge labour club already. The road by the labour club cannot take the volume of traffic.
A bus swerved around a metal sign which made a car land on top of one of the black balls because it tried to get out of the way of the bus.
Oh! Happy Days!!!
