A grass fire on Machen mountain is to burn overnight, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has said.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the deliberate blaze at 8.55pm last night, April 19, and tackled the large grass fire.

However, they were called to the mountain again this morning, April 20, after the fire, covering 247 acres, re-started.

A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said:  “There have been 30 grass fire incidents in the Caerphilly area over the weekend, 9am Friday April 17 to 11.59pm Sunday April 19.

“The majority of the fires are deliberate, however, we can’t confirm exact numbers at this point due to reports being finalised.”
