Charity fashion show to be held at Llancaiach Fawr

News | | Published: 15:00, Thursday April 23rd, 2015.

A fashion show with a difference is to be held at Llancaiach Fawr.

The charity fashion show, organised by event management students from the University of South Wales, will celebrate women of all shapes and sizes.

The proceeds from the night will be going to Follow Your Dreams, a national charity that helps children and young people with learning disabilities.

Taking centre stage at the catwalk will be two young people from the charity, who will model clothes kindly donated by Mountain Ash-based clothes boutique Howells and Past and Present, a new up-cycling fashion store in Penrhiwceiber.

The show takes inspiration from this year’s New York fashion week when actress Jamie Brewer became the first model with Down’s Syndrome to grace the catwalk at the event.

University of South Wales student Melissa Haggett said: “Myself and my group were truly inspired by seeing how the media reacted to Jamie Brewer in New York fashion week. It was refreshing to see the fashion industry celebrate a woman who doesn’t fit within the stereotypical model look, but is still beautiful in her own way. Seeing how she was celebrated and praised for her bravery inspired us to put on our own show featuring women of all shapes and sizes to celebrate the diversity of beauty.”

Hosting the event will be confidence coach Wenda James-Rowe, who has been working with the students to get the fashio show up and running.

She said: “I work with women from all works of life, helping them to reach their full potential and extremely passionate about spreading the body confidence message. This event is a fantastic platform in which women can celebrate the beauty of the skin they are in and I am delighted to be part of it.”

Tickets for the event can be bought by emailing broganhaggett@hotmail.co.uk or by calling 07796 328275.
