Caerphilly County Borough Council to elect new Mayor amidst protests against Ystrad Mynach park and ride

The new Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council is set to be voted in at the local authority’s Annual General Meeting.

The meeting, which is open to the public, is being held at 6pm today, Thursday May 14 at the council’s Ty Penallta offices in Tredomen.

A protest against proposals to build a park and ride at Ystrad Mynach railway station is to be held before the meeting.

Campaigners say a planned road through Ystrad Mynach Primary School’s field will detriment their children’s wellbeing.

The council’s cabinet will discuss whether to submit a planning application on May 20.
