Machen volunteer looking for sponsorship to attend Hong Kong St John event

News | | Published: 13:00, Wednesday May 27th, 2015.

A young volunteer is looking for sponsors to help raise money to attend an international youth event next year.

Rhiannon Bartlett, 16, who is a member of Bedwas Division of St John Cymru-Wales, is collecting funds to take part in the St John International Cadet Championships in Hong Kong next January.

The youngster from Machen, who is the St John Cymru-Wales Cadet of the Year, needs £2,500 to join 11 other St John members from across Wales at the event, where they will compete in first aid competitions against St John youths from across the world.

Sy Joshua, Director of Youth at St John, said: “Being part of St John Cymru-Wales helps our members learn new skills, boost confidence and get an insight into team-working, which will help them as they move towards the world of work.”

“The Hong Kong event will also help them further develop their skills, so they can pass them on to other St John members in future.”
