Trinant Community Centre gets grant from wind turbine project

News | | Published: 15:00, Tuesday June 30th, 2015.

The village of Trinant is to receive the first community grant linked to a wind turbine development in nearby Oakdale.

Sustainable energy developers ‘Partnerships for Renewables’ worked with Caerphilly County Borough Council to build two wind turbines on land at Oakdale Business Park.

As part of the agreed development, a community benefit fund was established.

The fund will provide around £10,000 a year for the next 25 years.

The first year of the scheme will see the total amount available double to £20,000.
Trinant Community Centre is the first project to benefit from the fund after being awarded £1,572 to help towards decorating the building.

Cllr Ken James, Caerphilly’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “Not only are these wind turbines providing a cleaner, greener source of energy, the scheme will also benefit countless community projects over the next 25 years.”

Clive Holyfield, Chair of Trinant Community Centre, said: “[The grant] means the centre can be updated internally, allowing it to be more in keeping with the updated exterior of the community centre.”

The next round of applications is Friday September 4 2015.
