Proposed location of turbines at Oakdale Business Park to move east

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Thursday June 9th, 2011.

Residents are to be consulted after plans to build two wind turbines at Oakdale Business Park were changed.

The drop-in surgery for people to ask questions and to view the plans will happen on Wednesday June 15 after it was decided to move the proposed location of the turbines to the east.

The land where the turbines will go is owned by Caerphilly County Borough Council. Renewable energy developer Partnerships for Renewables (PfR) is researching project’s viability.

Jerry Sturman, regional manager at PfR, said: “Following consultation with a number of stakeholders and community members along with further technical studies, we have shifted the turbines to the east. This change makes them slightly further from the closest residences.

“The purpose of this event is to share the latest photo-montages with the local community. These are to-scale, computer generated images which show what the turbines would look like in the landscape from a number of recognised viewpoints.

“This will also be another opportunity for members of the public to talk to the project team and share feedback.”

PfR believes the land is suitable for two 2.5 megawatt turbines which could generate around 11 gigawatt hours (GWh) of green electricity every year – enough to power 2,400 homes. They expect to submit a full planning application by the summer.

The developers are also looking at whether the turbines could power the business park.

The exhibition will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at Oakdale Community Centre, Penrhiw Avenue, Oakdale, from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.
