VOTE MEMO: Newbridge Memo is in with a chance to win a £2,000 National Lottery Award
VOTE MEMO: Newbridge Memo is in with a chance to win a £2,000 National Lottery Award

Newbridge Memo has reached the final stage of the National Lottery Awards and needs residents’ votes to secure a £2,000 cash prize.

The hall was built with money from miners’ wages in honour of the fallen of World War One and has recently fully opened after a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Having beaten off competition from 620 other organisations, Newbridge Memo is the only Welsh project competing against six others to be crowned the winner in the heritage category.

As well as the £2,000 cash prize, the winning team will also receive an iconic National Lottery Awards trophy and be invited to attend a star-studded awards ceremony which will be broadcast on BBC One in September.

Robert Jackson, Project Coordinator at Newbridge Memo said: “It’s a tremendous honour to have been chosen as the only Welsh heritage finalist in the National Lottery Awards. It’s fitting that a memorial to those who fell in World War One should be celebrated during its centenary

“It’s easy to vote, so we are hoping people will support us, to thank the many volunteers, trustees, musicians and others who supported the project for 12 years until we opened.

“We’ve been called a people’s palace, built by working people, for working people, and it would be a fantastic reward for everyone involved in the project – our staff, volunteers and local community – to receive national recognition for their hard work.”

Voting closes at midnight on July 29.
