Two students from Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys campus have won a prestigious industry award at a ceremony held St David’s Hotel and Spa, Cardiff Bay.

Lucy Aplin and Thomas Hewitt are studying for certificates in human resource practice and human resource management from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

Both have received the CIPD Student of the Year Awards for their success and hard work on their courses from the South East Wales branch of CIPD, the professional body for human resources.

Thomas was also recognised for his commitment to his studies at Coleg Gwent and presented with the George Chamberlain Award, in memory of the late George Chamberlain who was a committee member of the South East Wales CIPD Branch.

Thomas said: “It was great to be nominated and to have my efforts recognised, it was a surprise to be nominated for the memorial award. I’d like to thank those who nominated me.”

Business Lecturer, Carolyn Huxley said: “The awards are well deserved and a reflection of the hard work and commitment both students have shown throughout the year.”
