Residents discuss cuts and services at Morgan Jones ward meeting

News | | Published: 11:17, Tuesday July 7th, 2015.

Morgan Jones residents have had their say on Caerphilly County Borough Council’s budget at a public meeting on July 2.

Residents were asked what services the council should prioritise and raised concerns about street cleansing and the price of meals on wheels.

There was support for making Caerphilly town a more attractive place for tourists, as well as concern about inconvenience during major events.

The meeting was organised by Morgan Jones councillor James Pritchard who said he will “take all the views on board and work with the local authority to improve the lives of local residents”.

He said: “It was great to see residents come forward with plenty of ideas to improve our ward.

“It was clear there was a strong commitment to keeping the cost of meals on wheels down, protecting libraries as much as we can and there was support for anti-crime measures such as CCTV where needed.

“These are the things I will be championing and trying to make good on over the next year.”

The residents of Morgan Jones Ward of Caerphilly Council are very fortunate to have elected Councillor James Pritchard as their very, proactive, public representative.

This is an example of what Councillors should be doing, bringing the issue to the residents, networking information he has gained as a Councillor, and not just listening to residents, but actually asking them to speak to him and making arrangemewnts where they can do so collectively, he is clearly not worried about being ambushed at such events and obviously has the personal confidence and as proven by this event, the credability of residents to stand shoulder to shoulder with ALL and ANY of them. This is what public representation is all about and Morgan Jones residents are very lucky to have picked a good one.

I also notice from this report that our neighbours in Morgan Jones are actually raising issues which can improve the lot of those who live in adjoining wards particulalry the Centre of Town, which appears to have been neglected.

Lets hope Councillor Jamie Pritched can apply his influences on the subjects of law and disorder, crime ,CCTV to combat crime and disorder, and other unattractive issues in the Town Centre which effect HIS constituents, including inconvenience during town centre events, from that would flow benefits for all town users, and that will be welcome. A Councillor that actually WANT to hear what his constituents have to say. Is this a case of Jamie Pritchard leading where others MAY follow?. Good one Councillor.
