A new exhibition consisting of 365 paintings created by an artist over 12 months is to open in Caerphilly town.

Pontypool artist Louise Collis embarked upon the challenge to create an outdoor landscape painting a day a year ago.

The huge undertaking needed a massive level of commitment and dedication but the artist rose to the challenge.

This exciting project would visually document the changing seasons and the artist’s travels around the country.

All 365 paintings will go on display at Y Galeri, located beneath the town’s Visit Caerphilly Centre.

Jan Pennell, owner of Y Galeri, explained: “The exhibition will be hung in chronological order highlighting the changing seasons, the varying palettes used and the different inland and coastal vistas from one end of the country to the other. It has the makings of a unique and exciting show.”

To help get the project started and cement her commitment to it, Louise posted her idea on Kickstarter – a crowd funding website, and invited people to support the project by buying a painting in advance.

By June 2014 she was thrilled to get the support of more than 50 backers and was able to order all the painting boards required and schedule her painting trips.

She started painting in July 2014 and has been sending her backers monthly updates throughout.

Louise travelled extensively capturing landscapes, seascapes, mountains, reservoirs, towns and villages.

Originally from the South Wales Valleys, Louise graduated from Bath Spa University in 1998. She then spent time working full-time in Bath as well as producing artwork and promoting herself as an illustrator, taking part in group exhibitions and exploring themes and techniques.

With the exception of approximately 50 pieces reserved by Louise’s backers the rest will be available for purchase.

The 365 project can be seen at Y Galeri Caerffili from July 21 until September 5.

Y Galeri is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Admission is free.

Congratulations to this lady for bringing something to the town of some quality.

It is a facility much welcome in our town.

Can anyone, because the gallery`s web site is under reconstruction, inform me if this retail unit is a private enterprise, or is it a Charity? i.e. it`s business status.

I notice that I helped make a financial contribution to it from public funds made by the Town Council, a GIFT of £600 I think it was, I am also wondering if Caerphilly Council, who run the Visitor Centre on behalf of ratepayers, and are landlords of the rooms below it, where this facility is set up, have awarded it any adventagous arrangements to RENT it from the ratepayer?. I note that some months ago the Caerphilly Council refused to do so for another potential tenant.
