Trecenydd man admits “revenge porn” charge after posting explicit picture on Facebook

News | | Published: 07:17, Thursday July 23rd, 2015.

A man who posted a so-called “revenge porn” picture on his Facebook page could be facing jail.

Jesse Hawthorne, 23, of Trecenydd, appeared before Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday July 22 and admitted one charge of disclosing a private sexual photograph or film with the intention of causing distress. Hawthorne posted the so-called “revenge porn” image on June 27 without the consent of the woman pictured. He was bailed and will be sentenced at a later date.

The offence of “revenge porn” became illegal in the Criminal Justice and Courts Act, passed earlier this year. Those convicted could be jailed up to two years and fined.

While I do not support the act of posting explicit pictures of people online, I believe anyone should have the right to post pictures taken with a person’s consent regardless of their nature.

If a person is stupid enough to take explicit photographs of themselves, the person should face the consequences when someone who was given those photographs posts them online.

Perhaps the Observer can explain WHY, we are invited to comment of this “Court Case” and the process the culprit is being put through, Yet we Cannot Comment on the ongoing Caerphilly Senior Officers Court process?????????????? which you report from time to time

Hear, hear! For more than two years all of us taxpayers have been paying thousands of pounds per week in wages. This is more noteworthy than the minor cases that appear in the paper and yet the readers cannot voice their displeasure at why this case has dragged on a long time after Avon & Somerset police concluded their investigation.
