Labour win New Tredegar by-election

The Labour Party’s Mark Evans has been elected as New Tredegar’s representative on Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Cllr Evans won the by-election yesterday, July 23, with 648 votes.

Ukip’s Ian Gorman was second with 90 votes, while Conservative Robert Lea got 47 votes.

The election was called after Gerald Jones stood down from the council after being elected MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney in May.

Never in doubt…….the Welsh sheep would vote for a bucket of @@@@ if it had a Labour rosette pinned to it, and how Wales is reaping the benifits!

Bit harsh Paul, on the citizens of Tredeger, who appear to have voted to a man, and woman, for the labour candidate.

I do not understand how the minds of some people work. They must have the memory of a goldfish or not have a mind.

Wales is relying on handouts form Parliament and the EU. The NHS in Wales is terrible, schools in Wales are terrible, life expectancy in Wales is terrible, and by all measures Wales is behind England. The only areas where Wales leads the way in the UK are deprivation and poverty. Surely 13 years of a Labour government in Westminster and 100 years of Labour in Wales is proof that Labour do not have answers to improve Wales? It is time to give someone else a chance.

It is time somebody else took power in Wales, like you rightly point out the only thing Welsh Labour have done is increase deprivation and poverty, Wales is the poor relation of the U.K, the Welsh NHS is crumbling, education is poor, public services are dire, transport in Wales is appalling yet year on year we’re hammered with massive council tax increases. But regardless of the state of the country the majority of Welsh people will always vote Labour and will continue to do so because that’s how their parents and grand parents voted and that’s what it means to be Welsh, yes they have a mind but it has been imprinted upon them that they must vote Labour – they really would vote for a cardboard cut out if it represented Labour, the other parties may as well pack up and leave them to it, the Tories gave up on Wales years ago.

Do you really think, as you have stated, `the Tories gave up on Wales years ago`, how come they are the official opposition (second biggest party) in the Assembly then? don`t look to me as if they have given up anything. And Labour will have to work tirelessly to maintain all the good work they are doing in Wales, compared to the Tories `falling apart` Policies in England

Dig up Maggie Thatcher and give her another go, she will sort Wales all right.

Or, bring back Lawson, Major, or any of Maggie`s right hand money men, they did a good a job of dealing with, schools budgets in Wales, health and social care in Wales, introducing policies which really have entrenched Wales in deprivation and poverty, ideoligical policies which puts working class and poor working families in their place, and this was the `utopia` BEFORE devolution, and 13 yearts of a uk labour, Government. `O for the old days.

Come to think of it the callapsing implosion of the English Health Service, the u turning on election promises in respect to the reducing Cancer Drugs fund which is now failing dying English Cancer patients, including Children, who, before the election were promised life saving and life prolonging drugs. The u turn on the promised capping of care fees for the sick, and elderly English citizens, the list is being added to by the day. But, of course, if Wales had not voted labour, and fail to vote labour in sufficient numbers to retain control of the Welsh Assembly next year, we could return to the Tory Utopia of the Thatcher years `O for those old days. Excuse me now, I have just had a nose bleed thinking about it.

I take it you are happy living in Wales where average NHS waiting times are longer than in England. I take it you are happy living in Wales where the Welsh NHS offers fewer drugs to treat cancer than the English NHS. I take it you are glad living in Wales where the life expectancy is lower than in England. I take it you are happy living in Wales where unemployment is high than in England, there are fewer businesses than in England, the prevalence of skills are lower than in England, and education standards are lower than they are in England. Worry not, Wales does lead the way in something…poverty!

You dream for the 70s socialist policies but surely you can see the absurdity in the government owning hotels and cinemas?

You may not like Thatcher, but you need to look at the facts. The GDP grew under Thatcher than it has done under any other Liberal or Labour government, and poverty in Wales FELL under Thatcher. I hope you have read your history books to realise Wales was in extreme poverty BEFORE the Thatcher era?

I am `happier` living in Wales where Welsh Citizens have just a little more influence over what is done, in politics, in our name. It would be rediculous for me to say that I happy with the state of Welsh Politics, of course not.

The Sooner Plaid Cymru get a really grip on Welsh Politics the better off we will all be. Leanne leads well, but I do not see the rest following very closely.

No! Plaid Cymru are pseudo-socialists who have no answers to the problems facing Wales. Wales would be better off under a right-wing Conservative or UKIP government. What part of left-wing, Plaid politics holds the answers? Plaid has had a chance but they were too busy parading an agenda of relying on EU handouts and forcing equality by making the poor poorer provided the rich are less rich, to the detriment of us all.

Dean, first let me say that we were actually quite pleased with our result in New Tredegar. It was our first outing at the County Council level in our area and we knew it would be a tough area to make an impact upon. However we did make an impact and were also surprised that the Tories were able to improve upon their previous result in this ward.

Our goal was to give people an alternative and to start building a presence in the villages in the ward. A UKIP Merthyr and Rhymney Branch is being initiated this evening to prepare for the Assembly elections and the EU referendum.

As I am sure you know, I am not a fan of left-wing politics, I have publicly declared my support for both UKIP and the Conservatives. However, the result was terrible for UKIP. UKIP failed to convince the people that Wales needs change. If the campaign cannot be done correctly to even have half of the votes as the winner, what are the chances in that area come the assembly elections?

May I suggest for the elections next year you:

          1. Place more emphasis on the failings of Labour in the last 100 years.
          2. Do not defend the need for an NHS which is flawed in the modern era.
          3. Do not go down the path of promising blank checks to fix an NHS that cannot be fixed.
          4. Do not defend the use of the Welsh language. In fact, promise to not make Welsh and RE compulsory in schools in Wales.
          5. Promote grammar schools
