Caerphilly AM Jeff Cuthbert is encouraging local 16 to 18-year-olds to register for a new Welsh Government scheme which will give them a third off bus travel in Wales from September 1.
To register for the scheme visit Gov.wales/mytravelpass, which will allow young bus users to get discounted fares on all local buses and TrawsCymru journeys.
Mr Cuthbert said: “Travel costs can be a real barrier for young people to get a job or gain they skills they need and this scheme will help change that, by making it easier for 16 to 18-year-olds to travel around Wales.”
It is a waste of money. 16-24 year old’s are usually in school or college. Subsidising their bus travel will only make it cheaper for them to go out with friends, not boost their skills or employability.
I wonder what Cuthbert`s opinion is on Dean`s Comments, but I expect I shall wonder in vain.
Mr Vaughan does not say if he disagrees with Mr Cooperfield-West. So I assume that he’s in agreement.
For my part I completely disagree with Mr Cooperfield-West.
A good idea but don’t stop at 16-18 year olds, public transport should be reduced by at least a third for everybody, bus and train fares are far too high, what incentive is there to use public transport when it’s cheaper to take the car.
