Caerphilly Council seeks views on flood risks

News | | Published: 15:00, Friday August 14th, 2015.

Residents’ views on Caerphilly County Borough Council’s draft flood risk plan are being sought.

By law, the council has to create a new flood risk management plan to help identify areas that may be prone to flooding and how best to defend against it.

The draft plan, which covers flooding from surface water, ground water, watercourses and the interface with the main river, is available to view on the council’s website or in hard copy at local libraries.

The consultation will run until August 24. For more information or help, contact Michelle Johnson on 01443 866511 or email Johnsm@caerphilly.gov.uk.

I have a few suggestions on minimising the impact of flooding:

    1. Do not build on floodplains.
    2. Build embankments at the side of roads with drainage at the side of the roads before the embankments. The roads will become a protect avenue through flood waters.
    3. Build underground pools to house excess water.

I’ve a good idea. Build six hundred houses on top of a mountain.

How about get the drain cleaning teams to actually lift the grids off the drains and clean them out properly, not just spend 30 seconds squirting a bit of water down them which has no effect whatsoever.
