New plans have been submitted for flats above an Ystrad Mynach convenience store, after previous proposals failed to win support.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s planning officers rejected the previous application for five new homes above the Premier Stores on Bedwlwyn Road late last year over parking, light and affordability concerns.

Now, the new proposals for the building reduce the number of flats to four, and also include two offices on the first floor.

Each of the flats would have two bedrooms, a bathroom and an open-plan kitchen and living room.

A rear area on the building’s ground floor would be repurposed for parking.

Last year, council officers’ concerns included a lack of on-street parking in surrounding streets, which they said could lead to an “unacceptable pressure” on the neighbourhood.

For the revived proposals, the applicant commissioned a parking survey which found “the local area has ample capacity to accommodate the potential parking demand” from the new homes.

The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 26/0146/FULL.
