Bargoed shopkeeper fined for fly-tipping

News | | Published: 09:00, Thursday August 20th, 2015.

A Bargoed shopkeeper has been prosecuted for fly-tipping commercial waste.

Jasminder Singh Bal, the proprietor of Bal’s Convenience Store Ltd, West Street, Bargoed, was taken to court by Caerphilly County Borough Council after
waste from the shop was found on Pen- Y-Garreg Farm Lane, also known as the Bargoed to Deri mountain road.

The case was heard at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court recently and Bal admitted two offences under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

He was given a £1,000 fine, and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £431.56 together with a £100 victim surcharge.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said:
“Fly-tipping is a serious environmental crime, which has a real detrimental impact
on our countryside. In addition to this, it costs the council a significant sum of money each year to clean up fly-tipped waste – which is money which could be
far better spent on other things.”

Nice to see he is respecting the community he serves so well. Thank you Mr Singh for assimilating so harmoniously into the community. It would of been nice if you had joined at a higher rung but never mind it’s the thought that counts.
