A £7 million project aimed at helping unemployed over 25-year-olds get into work is to be rolled out across Caerphilly County Borough.
Finance and Government Business Minister Jane Hutt is set to announce the Bridges into Work 2 project today, August 24, in Pontypool.
The cash, £5.4m of which comes from European funding, will be used to provide training and mentoring for unemployed workers in Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil and Torfaen.
The project aims to help over 400 people directly back into work, and more than 1,000 to achieve new qualifications.
Latest figures show between 2.3% and 3.3% of 16 to 25-year-olds claim Jobseekers Allowance in Caerphilly County Borough.
Ms Hutt AM said: “Wales benefits from around £500 million of EU funds annually to strengthen our economy, invest in business and create opportunities for people to develop new skills and careers.
“I’m delighted that EU funding will support the next phase of Bridges into Work, which will help remove the barriers that prevent people getting into work and tackle economic inactivity in the South Wales Valleys.”
