Caerphilly AM Jeff Cuthbert has teamed up with Bargoed YMCA to help refugees fleeing persecution and war.

Bargoed YMCA have agreed to become a collection point for clothing and other useful items to be sent to refugees during the humanitarian crisis and local people are being asked to do their bit to help the relief effort.

Jeff Cuthbert AM said: “This is about providing immediate relief for families and children in desperate situations.

“I’d ask anybody who can spare any items to come along to Bargoed YMCA to help refugees in their hour of need.”

Due to the great response from ordinary people, organisers are asking only to bring what is urgently needed. This includes men’s clothes and shoes, children’s clothes, sleeping bags, tents, baby slings and foil blankets.

Items can be taken to Bargoed YMCA Monday to Friday between the hours of 10am and 3pm.

Items are also being collected at St Peter’s Church in Newbridge over the weekend.

Best take plenty of men’s clothes and shoes as there always seems to me to be a disproportionate number of young males, many hiding their faces, carrying mobile phones, probably nothing more than chancers attempting to gain entry into the U.K where the streets are paved with gold.

Men’s clothes? Are we that stupid that we can’t join up the dots?
We are supposed to learn from history not repeat its mistakes. The Ancient Greeks already gave us this story all the way from Troy.

We should not be helping the economic migrants who a greedy. Once they depart Turkey (a safe country) for Europe they are no longer refugees. All of this aid should go to refugee camps in Syria or Turkey. Better still, it should go to British charity shops.

Just reading the news and several jihadists have been identified amongst the ” refugees “. Unfortunately they were identified after they had disappeared into Austria. Please do not encourage anymore of these fighting age men into this country.

Yes Pete we have more than enough of them here living amongst us already, plotting to carry out murderous acts of terrorism against the very country that house and educate them, we can do without a bunch of narrow minded wet behind the ears do-gooders welcoming more of these vile individuals in.

I admire people who help selflessly for whatever reason and get annoyed when people question wether their motives are selfless or not. But in many cases their goodwill is directed at the wrong cause and their emotions swayed by ever present media. I think this is the case here. One picture was all it took to sway an entire continent.
