News | | Published: 12:35, Wednesday September 23rd, 2015.

Two new stores have opened at Blackwood Gate Retail Park adding to the new out-of-town development.

Sports Direct opened a 6,000 square foot store on September 9 and Aldi opened on September 17.

A Sports Direct spokesperson said: “We are delighted to be opening our new store in Blackwood.

“As we continue to grow throughout the UK, our ethos has never changed in that we offer our customers the biggest brands in all types of sportswear, footwear and sports equipment at low prices.

“Founded in 1982, SportsDirect.com is devoted to offering the biggest brands in sportswear, footwear and sports equipment at guaranteed low prices, offering exceptional quality at unbeatable value.

“Catering for all the family, the company has an enormous range of stock from leading brands such as Nike, Adidas, Lonsdale, Puma and Dunlop.”

The new Aldi store, has relocated from Blackwood High Street and stands at over 1,400 square metres.

It will create an extra six jobs and boasts 456 car parking spaces and around 1,500 product lines.
Store Manager Lee Brass said: “The team is looking forward to welcoming customers to our newly relocated store in Blackwood and we would like to thank them for their patience throughout the development.

“We are still recruiting for people who possess a passion for retail and a drive to succeed to join our team. If you’re interested in a career at Aldi, visit us online to find out more.”

The Aldi store will open between 8am and 10pm Mondays to Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

An Aldi spokesperson added: “The supermarket has created six new jobs in the local community and is also actively recruiting for its existing stores in the surrounding areas.

“Vacancies include Assistant Store Managers, Deputy Store Managers and Store Assistants.”

Blackwood Gate Retail Park has attracted new businesses after a change in planning permission was sought by Cllr Nigel Dix.

Cllr Dix said: “I campaigned for six years and three times I took it to the planning committee.

“On the last occasion I won because we had a new Labour council.

“The public voted us in on our campaign to create jobs and it worked because we’ve created an economic interest in the site and the whole town will benefit from that.”

Nigel you don’t half spout some rubbish. Aldi could have gone on the empty sommerfield store just the same as blackwood gate retail.
Labour needs to sort out the NHS in Wales which is a disaster.
Locally you need to stick up for the area because from blackwood to risca we are the poor relations of caerphilly cbc.

I’m from Caerphilly town and often find the council to be a bit Caerphilly centric. I ain’t complaining but I do recognise it, at least a bit anyway.
