
Volunteers from across Caerphilly County Borough have been recognised at the annual Voluntary Sector Achievement Awards, held at Blackwood Miners’ Institute on Wednesday, September 9.
Caerphilly County Borough Council and Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) organised the award ceremony to honour the volunteers from all sections of the local community.
During the evening, winners were congratulated and presented with awards by host Cllr Leon Gardiner, Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough.
The winners were: Young Volunteer of the Year – Nathan Price; Record Breaking Volunteer – Sheila John; Environmental Volunteer – John Pritchard and Ron Cooper (Tarragan); Parent Volunteer – Mandy Chick; Inspirational Volunteer – Doreen Ellis; Retired Senior Volunteer – Keith Sutcliffe; Practical Service Adult Volunteer (individual) – Lyndon Thomas; Practical Service Adult Volunteer (group) – Llamau Domestic Abuse Services Volunteering Scheme; New Volunteer – Anthony Angell; Mayor’s Civic Award – Geraint Lewis.
Bryn Pontin from Cwmfelinfach was crowned Supreme Volunteer for his outstanding dedication to volunteering. Mr Pontin was nominated by the Forester Walk Club, Cwmfelinfach Community Centre Management Committee and Cwmfelinfach Residents Association for his work.
