An actress from Caerphilly has scooped a best actress award at an independent film festival in Los Angeles.

Sabrina Dickens, from Castle View, won a Diamond Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the International Independent Film Awards in Encino, in the home of show business.

The 27-year-old won the recognition for her role in My Lonely Me, where she stars alongside Eastenders’ Nasty Nick, or John Altman outside Albert Square.

Ms Dickens said she was “amazed” as she did not even know she had been nominated until director Joe Scott phoned to tell her she had won.

The achievement is all the more special as it is Sabrina’s first leading role in a feature film.

She said: “I was quite shocked because the film has been submitted to quite a lot of festivals.

“At the World Music and Independent Film Festival in Washington I was nominated for best actress, but I didn’t win that and was really disappointed.

“But then I won this one and the feeling is just too hard to describe.”

In My Lonely Me Sabrina plays a dual role as the lead girl and her mother, Reiga and Celine.

The musical thriller has won ten awards and ten nominations and is a move away from Sabrina’s first roles in the horror genre.

She added: “The director was praying for me to win something because it was such a demanding role to play two characters.

“He was disappointed I didn’t win in Washington so was happy when he called to say ‘you’re finally a winner.”

My Lonely Me’s ten awards include best director, Joe Scott, best actor, John Altman, and best supporting actress, Jan Anderson.

The film is yet to be publicly released, but for all the latest news about Sabrina Dickens and her work visit her website or follow Sabrina on Twitter.
