Tributes have been paid to two best friends from the Bargoed area who died in a car crash on Sunday, October 11.

Father-of-one Ryan Gibbons, 20, and Rhys Jones, 18, died when a car they were travelling in crashed into a telegraph pole in Georgetown, Merthyr Tydfil.

In a tribute, the family of Mr Jones said: “Rhys was a loving and wonderful son who enjoyed life to the full. Always laughing and smiling.

“Our precious son, who will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. He will never be forgotten. We loved having him so much and we will be forever heartbroken.

“Rhys was a loved big brother. He was humble and kind.

“Our thoughts also go out to Ryan’s family for their loss as they had been friends since childhood and Ryan was also like a son to us.”

His younger brother added: “I’ll try my hardest to fill your boots. Rest in paradise big man, sleep tight until we meet again. Love you bro.”

Mr Gibbons’ family paid tribute to “a loving son, brother, dad and grandson”, who was “a well mannered, polite young man, who doted on his daughter Sophia”.

They said: “You have been taken far too early in such tragic circumstances. Our only comfort, is knowing that you were with your best friend, Rhys.

“Goodnight handsome boy.  Until we meet again.”

There were five men in the the white Seat Ibiza, aged between 18 and 20, when it crashed.

A third casualty remains in a critical condition at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and a 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
