Roy Noble officially opened the new £400,000 Tir-y-Berth Village Hall on October 3.

The popular broadcaster helped the hall’s chair, Cllr Hefin David, open the new facility.

The two-storey building boasts a large function room, office accommodation, community space, a computer room and toilets.

Cllr David said: “Tir-y-Berth now has a modern facility in the heart of the village.

“I would like to praise the dedication and enthusiasm of all those on the committee in helping make this exciting project happen, especially Sue Harper, Hazel James and Christine David. This is what we can do when we work together as a community.

“The opening is great news for all of the residents of Tir-y-Berth, many of whom sent us letters of support in the early stages to accompany our grant application. As Roy Noble said, this is the true spirit of the South Wales Valleys.”

Construction of the hall was funded through a Big Lottery People and Place’ Grant of almost £400,000. Caerphilly County Borough Council also provided a technical assistance grant of £7,000 to start the project in 2012.

The old village hall that stood on the site for the past 40 years was also demolished.

Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations and Communities First will be heavily involved in promoting and using the hall in future.

For more information about the facilities on offer at the new site call 07883 010173.
