Caerphilly Labour councillor Rhianon Passmore launched her Welsh Assembly election campaign on Friday November 13.
Ms Passmore was selected as the Labour and Co-operative Party’s prospective Assembly candidate for Islwyn by local Labour members in July.
She launched her campaign for the election, which takes place in May, at Cross Keys Rugby Club with former Islwyn MP and now Lord, Neil Kinnock.
Ms Passmore said: “Between now and the Assembly election next May, I want to meet as many Islwyn residents as possible, to stress how important it is for us all in Islwyn to keep a Labour-led Welsh
Government next year.
“Only Welsh Labour can protect public services under threat by the Tories in Westminster. Only Welsh Labour will promote economic prosperity and social justice.”
Lord Kinnock said: “I’ve known Rhianon for many years. She’s been a hard-working councillor for Risca, an effective Caerphilly Council cabinet member for education, and she’ll make a great Assembly Member for the constituency I had the honour to represent. I’m proud to back Rhianon for Islwyn.”
The Green Party’s Katy Beddoe and Plaid Cymru’s Lyn Ackerman have also declared they are standing in Islwyn.
Ms Beddoe, from Crosskeys, said: “I am pleased to standing in the Assembly Elections, and l hope to add pressure with a campaign message for the National Assembly to do more to protect the most vulnerable from vicious, ideological Tory cuts.
“Such as, following the Scottish Parliament who protect their tenants from the ‘Bedroom Tax’, instead of overpriced vanity projects like the current plans for the M4 relief road.”
Welsh Labour are so fantastic at promoting “economic prosperity and social justice” that ales is still the poorest country in the UK, Welsh people still gave the worst outlook on life, Welsh education is lagging behind, the Welsh NHS is a disaster, and businesses make moves to avoid Wales. Yes, Labour really is fantastic and competent.
A faceless spokesperson for the Welsh Assembly states that it’s not their fault that Wales is the poor relation of the U.K, it’s the Tories in Westminster who are to blame for everything………and the sheep believe them.
Too true. You would think after 13 years in Westminster and every year in Cardiff Bay since its conception, that the disciples would have realised their Gods are not noble.
