Sport | | Published: 11:54, Monday January 25th, 2016.

RUGBY LEAGUE: South Wales Scorpions trialist Scott Gregory has impressed head coach Phil Carleton enough to have earned a playing contract for the 2016 season.

The 25-year old, who joined the Scorpions on trial back in October, has impressed sufficiently to earn a playing contract and squad number ahead of the 2016 playing season.

The Cardiff-based back joined from Valley Cougars, with whom he spent the 2015 season helping them to the League Leaders Shield. Gregory is a dual code player having also featured for Glamorgan Wanderers and Blackwood RU.

On signing his contract Gregory said: “I’ve learnt a lot from the coaches during the first part of pre-season and now hope to continue learning and improving. I’m looking forward to helping the Scorpions have a great season.”
Head Coach Phil Carleton is delighted to see Gregory commit.

He said: “Scott hasn’t missed a session since November and has worked incredibly hard up to Christmas . It was just a matter of seeing him maintain momentum with his fitness test before I offered him a contract.”

Scott has been allocated squad number 21 for the 2016 season and will be sponsored by Castle Health Limited.
