A photography student from Abertridwr is to have her work displayed at Tredegar House, near Newport.

Lucy Purrington’s work will form part of a new exhibition showcasing historical and cultural reflections of the house and its gardens.

The exhibition will display work by second year photography students from the University of South Wales, who were given a live brief to capture various aspects of the house and gardens via photography and other visual media.

Student Lucy made a short documentary about a former resident’s autobiography.

She said: “Upon hearing the tales of Evan Morgan, one of the most popular former residents, I was fascinated by his bohemian lifestyle and contributions to the arts, and so built my project around him.

“Interested in the mystery of his life, I investigated the grounds, conducting a series of geophysical surveys and an archaeological dig to try and find his buried autobiography.”

The students’ varied works will be displayed in rooms throughout the house, alongside the house’s artefacts.

Tredegar House General Manager Linda Wigley said: “It’s fantastic to see such a range of reactions to the house and how the students have tackled topics from buried treasure to restoration.”

The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday, February 12 to Thursday, March 24, from between 11am and 4pm daily.
