A co-driver from Oakdale is beginning to make quite the name for himself.
17 year old Jordan Wilkinson is only in his second year of rallying, but has already posted some impressive results on various courses around the country.
After starting out by helping to service his great-uncle’s Ford Cortina, Jordan decided auto test runs weren’t filling his appetite of being in the thick of the action, so applied for his MSA Co-Driver’s license early last year.
Shortly after, the teenager was competing in his first rally.
Aged just 16, Jordan was calling the notes next to driver Steve Hopkins, from Newbridge, on the Bob Shaw Memorial stages at Talbenny, Pembrokeshire in April 2015.
They finished a respectable 18th overall, and fourth in their class.
It was only the beginning for Jordan. He had the bug.
Over the course of 2015, he picked up awards for Best Novice Crew Award for Co-Driver and Best Epynt Virgin Co-Driver, for which he was once again racing alongside Steve Hopkins.
Jordan’s next rally will take place on Sunday March 13, on this year’s Tour of Epynt. He will be co-driving for Ken Roberts, in a Honda Civic Type R.
Jordan is looking to better his placing from last year’s event, while Ken returns to race in Wales for the first time in 2016.
Sponsorship has been hard to come by for the Oakdale talent, as he doesn’t have a set driver for the season.
Jordan’s sponsors currently adorn his race kit and clothes, and include Stitch Tech Solutions and AS Performance, a major specialist brake fluid and chassis components distributor who also undertake custom engine builds.
The youngster is seeking further sponsorship to help with safety equipment and clothing.
