Fochriw man charged over railway cable thefts

News | | Published: 10:40, Tuesday March 8th, 2016.

A Fochriw man has been charged with conspiracy to steal, after he was arrested last year in connection with the theft of railway cable.

Paul Ross Jones, aged 37, of Ael-Y-Bryn, Fochriw, was arrested by British Transport Police in August last year following a series of dawn raids involving HM Revenue and Customs, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, South Wales Police and the Health and Safety Executive.

Jones was arrested alongside Darren Parry Jones, aged 49, of High Street, Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, who has now been charged with one count of conspiracy to steal and two counts of handling stolen goods

All charges relate to thefts of railway cable that took place between April 1, 2015 and August 20, 2015 in the Theale and Thatcham areas of Berkshire.

The pair will appear at Merthyr Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 7.
