17-year-old rally driver Aaron Jones pipped his opponents to finish as the highest junior driver at the 2016 Tour of Epynt, held on Sunday March 13.

The notorious course at the Epynt Military Ranges in the Brecon Beacons provided the perfect backdrop on a clear, sunny weekend.

In a strong field of over 100 cars, Aaron and his co-driver Owen Evans – who were the youngest crew competing at the event – managed to complete the course without any maintenance required on their new Honda Civic Type R.

The seven stage, 180-mile track finished in Llandovery, and the pair completed the course in 35th position in the overall field.

The teenage pair did top their class, and added maximum points to their Welsh Championship tally.

Aaron said: “I just wanted to get to the finish of the rally and get to grips with the car, this is a very big event and equally as tough.”

Aaron is again making a bid for success in the FMP Motor Factors Rally Challenge following his junior title in 2014.

The FMP was set up by Maesteg and District Motor Club with the aim of supporting Wales Air Ambulance and is confident of raising £4000 by the end of the year.

WAA fund raising manager Mark Stevens commented: “We are delighted that Aaron and Owen are able to help to raise the profile of the charity which needs £6 million a year to keep its three helicopters in operation.”

The team’s next event will be the Tour of Caerwent on the Sunday March 27 in Newport.
