Caerphilly-based housing association United Welsh has announced it will be the new kit sponsor for the Caerphilly team in the Cardiff City Foundation Premier League Kicks project.

Cardiff City Premier League Kicks has run since October 2013 across South Wales and provides free sports coaching sessions to young people aged 14 to 19.

The coaching sessions in the Caerphilly area were originally set up in partnership with British Transport Police to promote healthy alternatives to anti-social behaviour, with the sessions held every Thursday at Caerphilly Leisure Centre at 7pm.

The Foundation’s Social Inclusion Officer Zac Lyndon-Jones said: “During the first 12 months of the programme nearly 700 young people attended sessions across South Wales and we have now seen over 1,600 young people take part in the free sports sessions.

“We’re grateful to United Welsh for getting behind the project. The new kits have helped to instil pride in the team.”

Steve Cranston, Head of Community Investment for United Welsh said: “Projects like Premier League Kicks are so important for young people, teaching life skills and encouraging community spirit.

“We’re happy to support the team and hope more United Welsh tenants will get involved.”
