Council approves plans for automatic petrol station in Blackwood

News | | Published: 11:00, Wednesday April 20th, 2016.

An automated petrol station without cashiers is to be built in Blackwood, after councillors approved plans by supermarket Asda.

The four-pump station will serve a maximum of eight cars at a time and will not have a pay kiosk, with drivers paying at the pump.

The new station will be built in the store’s car park in Blackwood Retail Park and would reduce its capacity from 383 spaces to 336.

A report from the supermarket said that not all spaces are used currently and that the reduction of capacity will not impact on shoppers finding somewhere to park.

Councillors, at a planning meeting on April 6, unanimously agreed the plans, but attached two conditions.

The first is that Asda will introduce measures to prevent the accumulation of landfill gases, and the second is to submit details of the 75,000-litre underground tanks it is to install.

Both conditions will need further approval from councillors.

With no wages to pay then lets hope for cheaper fuel, like it should be.
