Caerphilly Cycling Club is looking for youngsters interested in taking up the sport.

The club, which was formed by a group of keen road cyclists in 2015, offers coaching to children between three and ten-years-old in key elements of road cycling.

All sessions are held at St Cenydd School in Caerphilly on Sundays, between 3pm and 4.30pm.

Junior Secretary of Caerphilly Cycling Club, Andrew Parry, said: “We’re looking to inspire the next generation of road cyclists through our love for the sport.

“We want to develop cycling skills in the younger kids and provide them with a fun environment to learn.

“This year is a big one for cycling, with the Velothon coming through Caerphilly next month, then the track cycling events at the Olympics in Rio in the summer, and Cyclo-cross throughout the autumn.”

There are 20 children currently involved in the kids’ club, who are taught a variety of road cycling techniques, including pedalling, cornering, cone movement, mounting and dismounting.

Children who are interested in joining the club must be able to ride a bike unaided, and no BMX bars or stabilisers are allowed.

Mr Parry added: “It’s worth stating that this isn’t cycling proficiency. We do require the children to be able to cycle without supports.”

Junior membership costs £10, and the fee includes a free t-shirt and water bottle.

The club is run by a group of volunteers which includes eight coaches with British Cycling qualifications.

Upcoming sessions are being run every Sunday from May 1.
