Rugby League: No sting in Scorpions’ tail after big defeat to Rochdale Hornets

Sport | | Published: 10:53, Friday May 27th, 2016.

An understrength South Wales Scorpions side were defeated 70-6 to the unbeaten Rochdale Hornets on Sunday May 22, with the league leaders maintaining their gap over nearest rivals Doncaster and Toulouse at the top of the table.

Rochdale ran in 14 tries to the Caerphilly side’s single one in a one-sided affair at Spotlands.

Dale Bloomfield bagged a hattrick of scores, while Jono Smith, Danny Yates, Paul Crook, and Chris Riley all grabbed braces.

Scorpions’ lone try came from Sion Jones midway through the first half.

Paul Emanuelli converted to bring the score back to 12-6, but it was one way traffic from there on as Rochdale racked up 58 points without reply.

The result leaves South Wales Scorpions third from bottom of the Kingstone Press League 1 on goal difference.
