A downhill mountain biker from Caerphilly overcame an early crash to finish third in the women’s final of the Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup.
Manon Carpenter, 23, from Caerphilly, was competing in the Fort William stage of the annual UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in the shadow of Ben Nevis, Scotland.
Carpenter finished top in qualifying, but suffered a slip over a particularly tricky downhill section during her final run.
She recovered well to finish third on the podium, behind Salisbury’s Rachel Atherton and Tracey Hannah of Australia.
Atherton matched Anne-Caroline Chausson’s record of nine consecutive wins.
