Just three weeks after being crowned European Champion, Lauren Williams has struck gold once again.
Lauren, 17, was competing for Great Britain at the Greece Open Taekwondo Championships in Salonica on Saturday June 11.
Fighting at the 67kg weight, the Blackwood teenager dropped only six points en route to the final, defeating Australia’s 2013 world champion Carmen Marton 16-4 in the semi-final.
In the final, Lauren, pictured below, bested Vanessa Koerndl from Germany 22-12 to win the 67kg category, and the exciting talent was nonchalantly cool about her performance.
She said: “I didn’t go out there just to get gold, I went out to try new kicks and techniques so to get a medal was a bonus.
“I didn’t play to my strengths because I was doing new things so win by 12 points gap against Marton was a major plus.”
With a fantastic record at senior level, where she has only fought three times, Lauren now plans to take a break from competitions until the autumn.
She added: “I feel like I have faced all the top seeds now so it can’t get much better.
“I just have to keep building on my game.”
