Gwent Police has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, following an increase in distraction-related crime over the past month.
There have been six reported distraction burglaries in the past three weeks, including two on Saturday July 2.
The first occurred between 2.30pm and 3pm at a house on Glenview Terrace, Llanbradach.
A man called at the property claiming that his sister may have caused damage to the rear windows of the property with a catapult, and asked for access to the house to assess the damage.
The man was denied access.
The second occurred at Coronation Street, Trethomas at around 5.20pm.
The caller was granted access, and when no damage was found, was asked to leave.
While no items were stolen in these incidents, a similar story has been used at other properties in Nelson, Bedwas and Llanbradach throughout June where cash and jewellery have been stolen.
Detective Sergeant Michelle Chaplin said: “An investigation into all these incidents is currently ongoing, but in the meantime I would ask residents to be extra vigilant and keep an eye out for their neighbours.
“If someone calls at your home who you think is suspicious, please report it to police immediately.
“Do not grant access to your home if you are unsure of someone and their reasons to enter.”
