A Newbridge electronics manufacturer opened its doors to two local primary schools recently in an effort to inspire the next generation of bright Welsh minds.

Pupils from Abercarn Primary School and Crumlin Primary School were given the chance to discover the hi-tech world of electronics at Axiom Manufacturing Services’ state-of-the-art facility on Newbridge’s Technology Park.

Sharon Knight, deputy headteacher at Crumlin Primary, said: “The visit to Axiom was an exciting opportunity for our pupils and a thoroughly engaging insight into the world of work.

“It provided valuable experience to build upon their science learning – putting electricity and electronics into an everyday context. We’ve already had students express an interest in working at a place like Axiom as a result.”

Axiom recently announced its sixth year of sustained growth, which has resulted in a record turnover of more than £40 million.

David Davies, Managing Director at Axiom, said: “It is important to show Welsh youngsters that there are exciting opportunities to work in high-technology industries right here on their doorstep.

“We hope that all learners who visit us leave with a sparked interest in manufacturing and a sense of how committed we are to nurturing young talent.”
