In his latest blog for Caerphilly Observer, Conservative South Wales East AM, Mohammad Asghar, discusses the scrapped discount bus pass scheme.

Hindering young people
When launching the Welsh Government’s discount bus pass scheme for young people in 2015 the then Minister for Transport [Edwina Hart] said: “Travelling costs can sometimes be a barrier, so this scheme will make it easier and cheaper for 16-18 year olds to travel. It underlines our commitment to supporting our young people into work and education opportunities.”

I agree with these sentiments.

So why is the Welsh Government scrapping the scheme just eighteen months after its launch?

Could the low take up by young people show how poorly the scheme was marketed by the Welsh Government?

This action will hinder young people trying to access work or education, particularly in the most deprived communities in Wales.
