The funeral of Caerphilly Council leader Keith Reynolds is to be held today, Thursday, April 27.

A service will be held at St Sannan’s Church, Bedwellty, at 2.15pm. Following this, Cllr Reynolds’ family would like to invite people to attend a reception at Llechwen Hall to celebrate his life.

Cllr Reynolds died early on Monday, April 10, aged 71, after battling a terminal illness. He had decided earlier this year not to contest the upcoming local elections.

Tributes flooded in for Cllr Reynolds following his death with many praising his 38-year commitment to public service and representing the people of Aberbargoed.

As a young man beginning his career, Cllr Reynolds worked as a colliery blacksmith for more than 29 years – 16 of those spent in Bargoed and 13 in Penallta Colliery.

He then spent 18 years as a Community Health Council Chief Officer, firstly at Merthyr and Cynon Valley, and latterly, following a re-organisation at the newly created Cwm-Taf CHC, from where he took retirement in 2010.

Starting his political career in 1979, Cllr Reynolds spent 38 years working in local government, representing his community of Aberbargoed for almost four decades and as leader of the council since 2014.
